Greetings AAHFN Member!
Thank you for your interest in taking an active leadership role in our rapidly growing organization. As an officer, you would have the opportunity to continue to participate in the development and growth of AAHFN beyond the level of a volunteer or committee role. AAHFN aims to set standards for heart failure nursing care and serve as the professional network for those who are passionate about heart failure management, and improving the lives of patients and their families.
The AAHFN Nominations Committee is seeking strong, visionary and enthusiastic leaders to be considered for open Board of Director and Officer positions for the July 1, 2010-June 30, 2012 Board term.
The AAHFN Nominations Committee welcomes applicants who meet the following requirements
(1) have served at least 1 year in a volunteer or committee role for AAHFN and
(2) were an active AAHFN member for at least 1 year
Descriptions of Positions Available:
Secretary (2 year term)
Shall provide for the keeping of the following documents at the principal office of the association:
(1) a book of minutes of meetings held by the association and of the Board of Directors;
(2) the articles of incorporation;
(3) the bylaws;
(4) the seal of the association; and
(5) the membership roster.
The secretary shall provide notice of all meetings of the Board of Directors and members in accordance with these bylaws. The secretary shall perform all duties incident to the office of the Secretary and such duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.
Treasurer (2 year term)
Shall supervise the maintenance of all funds and securities of the association and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.
Member, Board of Directors (2 year term, 2 positions available)
Responsibilities include involvement with all business and affairs of the association, subject to the control of the Board of Directors, including planning, establishing corporate policies, approving budgetary aspects, and adopting, amending or repeal bylaws.
Expectations and Responsibilities of Elected Officers:
- Attend 2 in-person Board of Director meetings per year
- Attend monthly Board of Director's conference call meetings and other conference calls as assigned
- Participate with committees on an as needed basis
- Serve as a Facilitator or Leader on appointed task forces
- Attend the Annual Meeting in 2010 and during each year of their term
- Projected time requirement of 3-4 hours month

As an applicant for office, we need to learn more about your professional background and goals, your skills and talents, and the vision that you have for AAHFN. In essence, we would like to learn more about you and the unique perspective and insights you would bring to the organization in a leadership role. To accomplish this, applicants for the above open Board positions must complete the following:
- Online Application: Applications for the open board positions must be submitted using the online submission site. Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on January 31, 2010. The application site is only open to members of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses.

- Curriculum Vitae: Applicants must submit their curriculum vitae via email to Heather Petet, Executive Director, at hpetet@ahint.com by 11:59 PM on January 31, 2010.
- Letters of Professional Support: Applicants must submit two (2) signed letters of professional support. One (1) letter must be from a supervisor and one (1) letter must be from a professional colleague.Letters must be postmarked January 31, 2010.
Applicants who completed the online application and submitted their curriculum vitae and two letters of professional support by 11:59 PM on January 31, 2010 will be contacted by a member of the Nominations Committee for a 30 minute phone interview between February 4 – 15, 2010.
Following the phone interview, the AAHFN Nominations Committee will present a final slate of officers and directors to the AAHFN membership for the 2010 election. Applicants will be notified in March 2010 as to the status of their acceptance to the slate of directors and officers for the 2010 election.
Voting for the 2010 election will open on April 1, 2010 and run through May 1, 2010. Nominees will be notified of the results of the election by May 17, 2010. Installation of new officers will occur at the 2010 AAHFN 6th Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL, June 24th-26th.
