Director, Heart Failure Recovery and Research Center, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, CA Currently, Dr. J. Thomas Heywood is the Director of the Heart Failure Recovery and Research Center at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Loma Linda School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. Dr. Heywood received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and his medical degree from the University of California at San Diego in San Diego, California. He completed a residency in internal medicine in San Diego, California and worked as a cardiology registrar at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He completed a cardiology fellowship at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. Following his fellowship, he spent a year as a cardiovascular research fellow at the University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1995 Dr. Heywood was appointed the Director of the Cardiomyopathy Program and Adult Heart Transplant Program at Loma Linda University Medical Center and in 2001 was promoted to Professor of Medicine at the Loma Linda School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. He has been a principle investigator in many pivotal heart failure trials and is very active in clinical heart failure research. He is the author of numerous articles, abstracts and book chapters on congestive heart failure. |
